Imaginative Manipulation

 Define:

Project summary: For my image manipulation project I was thinking of doing a football manipulation with pets  and objects but then that was getting really hard to do so I decided to make the shots I had into a music album.

What: The image will be a portrait shot of my cat looking at the ball. I would make the ball look like a galaxy. It would look like the cat is travelling around the place and no one knows where it came from and who owns it but its just around the home.

Why: I really like space and the atmospheres an I always wonder what is beyond the sky's. When I was younger I would watch all the star wars movie and I always imagined there was other life outside earth.

When: I would be watching amines (Japanese animations) set in space, like Dragan Ball Z and Bleach. These types of show would show me how there might be a whole different universe to explores in a galaxy far away.

Where: I plan of taking photography of a cat that come to my house everyday and try get a shot of it focusing on food. And an object that is around my house like my football so the sphere shape would resemble a planet or "universe".

Who: It is going to focus on a cat that comes around my house, that is the main thing in this image. I could have taking a picture of my family but I decided to take pictures of this cat because it always shows up for feeding time around the same time almost everyday.

Research : These are some cat album over the years.

 Carole King Tapestry (1971)

Carole King really had a  tabby cat called Telemachus. Her pet cat helped her to launch this album and it was able to sell over of 25 million copies across the world.

Klaxons  Surfing the Void (2010)

Gil Scott-Heron and Brian Jackson Secrets (1978)

The black cat in the album gives a very mysterious vibe.

Pale Saints Comforts of Madness (1990)

Wavves  King of the Beach (2010)

this album cover is very colourful and a lot is going on in the picture.

Jerry Garcia Band Cats Under the Stars (1978)

Best Coast Crazy for You (2010)

We Are Scientists  With Love and Squalor (2005)

Various Artists Cats (1982 Original Broadway Cast) (1982)

Chapterhouse  Whirlpool (1991)

Visual Inspiration: theses are some inspiration I could use for my album that I found interesting

sketches: few drawings of the plan

reason: I chose to do this image as album cover because the cat will be a symbol of mystery. Cats are very mysterious creatures, you never really know what they are thinking at any point.

how it started shots:

started to fade the ball and coloured it white

Used the brush tool to get the shadows behind the cat and the ball to become the moon

Different colour used:

I tried to shadow the cat full black at one point but it really didn't work well.

This is one looks like the cat is disintegrating

The final shots for the album and I added a title

Artist statement:
This album was done for my image manipulation assignment I decided to go with an image of a cat and I found it very interesting and fun to try play around on adobe Photoshop. At first it was really hard to think of an idea for this assignment. Then I started looking at cat memes and old rock music albums from back in the day. That gave me the idea of making this image (of the cat) for the album. I had to challenge myself to crate something on photoshop as soon as possible, that would also allow me to include the image of the cat in an interesting way. I think the image of the cat is very funny and playful, it is not a vert serious image but it is something you can look at and laugh at.

Critical Evaluation:
While doing this assignment, I think using photoshop was my biggest weakness maybe its because I was a bit behind on using the right tools and I feel it would have been easier if I was in college with the lecturer and learning how to use it face to face. sometime I forget how to use some tools, so it is a continuous learning experience. At the end of the day I managed to get the piece together. I think it was the inner glow and shadow effect that really got this project going and I used a bit of drop shadow to get that space.

lab7 - Product Shot Setups

This is how I set up my product shot with using 2 paper, a mirror , ring light, chair.

for lab I try use different lighting and background I use to white sheet of paper so it can reflect the light and a mirror to give that double reflation look

iso 100 f5.6 1/5 nikon D3500

for this shot i try getting the shot with a bottle few of liquids. it was a bit hard because the paper keeps falling down

iso100 f8 1/5 nikon D3500

For this shot I us a cup full of liquid and the light was moved to the right side and you can see the focus shot on the cup with the background fading

iso100 f8 1/5 nikon D3500

For this shot I had water on the can to give it that cold look and instead of the mirror I had tinfoil on the bottom

lighting setup for a product shot instead of a light box ,large sheet of  white paper hanging in front of the light to diffuse it.

iso100  f10  nikon D3500

For this shot I had 2 candle in front of the white paper with natural light hitting of the curtain. I had to use 2 large paper so you could not see the line showing up from it

This is a better one that I took.

I set the aperture setting that’s small enough to clearly capture the entire product shooting with an aperture of around f/8 should worked well

iso 100 f8 nikon D3500

For this shot I had no jewellers so I use an apple watch so the different with this and f8 is so obvious its a bit Clare

This shot is just with the aperture change up you can see the shot much better

the set up with and without

(Critical evaluation)

Critical evaluation:

I really liked my final shot because I manged to get the reflection that I wanted at the end of the day and that background looks better then before. I can see this advertisement being put on TV and billboards in the future. The picture looks very sophisticated, like a Hugo Boss advert and it almost has a vintage feel to it. I had this shot taken with a f8 mode it really gave a nice sharp shot and I lessen down the ring light tone, to reduce the glare.

It was hard to edit this shot because I was having problem using Adobe photoshop so it was stressful in the beginning, but it came together in the end. I had to lower the aperture, so that the line on the background would be less visible. After this was done, the final product makes the line look like it was purposely done. It blends into the background very nicely. I wish I could have gotten a shot that showed the full reflection of the bottle, rather than it being cut off halfway. I was just being cautious because I did not want the mirror to reflect the ceiling.

(Relevant Research)

Relevant Research: researching this product was not that hard I just took some shot with the perfume bottle in my sitting room. I had 2 pieces of white paper taped together so I could get that white background. I got a mirror and placed it on top of the chair so it could reflect upwards. After that I put the bottle on the mirror with 2 cubes, for extra details.

I had a ring light behind the white paper so the bottle could get some light. As for the ring light I taped a piece of white paper to act as a DIY light box. I had the aperture of the camera low so there can be a proper focus on the perfume instead of the cubes.

Some problems I had was getting the background to stop falling every time I took a photography. I definitely struggled with the paper. I could see the line of the light showing from the mirror reflection, I tried to adjust the paper as best as I could to make it less noticeable. To also help with this I decided to take the shots from different angle points.

I am going to try get more reflection shots of the bottle and the cubes not overpowering the hole set up. I was stuck between thinking of taken shot without a reflection just like my experiment shot on the develop. Until I saw some top famous brands using that reflection skill. It really makes the design look very cold and attractive to the eyes. I want to get the whole product in one shot from a decent angle so you can see the name and small details of where light hits the bottle of the perfume. So, I am hoping to try to achieve that ‘wow’ look.

These are some examples of pictures from my research:

  This are the test shots:

As you can see I was playing with the natural light in my room with 2 sheet of paper stuck from the back and one from the floor. And with 2 cube to get the mood of the image warm.
