Imaginative Manipulation

 Define:

Project summary: For my image manipulation project I was thinking of doing a football manipulation with pets  and objects but then that was getting really hard to do so I decided to make the shots I had into a music album.

What: The image will be a portrait shot of my cat looking at the ball. I would make the ball look like a galaxy. It would look like the cat is travelling around the place and no one knows where it came from and who owns it but its just around the home.

Why: I really like space and the atmospheres an I always wonder what is beyond the sky's. When I was younger I would watch all the star wars movie and I always imagined there was other life outside earth.

When: I would be watching amines (Japanese animations) set in space, like Dragan Ball Z and Bleach. These types of show would show me how there might be a whole different universe to explores in a galaxy far away.

Where: I plan of taking photography of a cat that come to my house everyday and try get a shot of it focusing on food. And an object that is around my house like my football so the sphere shape would resemble a planet or "universe".

Who: It is going to focus on a cat that comes around my house, that is the main thing in this image. I could have taking a picture of my family but I decided to take pictures of this cat because it always shows up for feeding time around the same time almost everyday.

Research : These are some cat album over the years.

 Carole King Tapestry (1971)

Carole King really had a  tabby cat called Telemachus. Her pet cat helped her to launch this album and it was able to sell over of 25 million copies across the world.

Klaxons  Surfing the Void (2010)

Gil Scott-Heron and Brian Jackson Secrets (1978)

The black cat in the album gives a very mysterious vibe.

Pale Saints Comforts of Madness (1990)

Wavves  King of the Beach (2010)

this album cover is very colourful and a lot is going on in the picture.

Jerry Garcia Band Cats Under the Stars (1978)

Best Coast Crazy for You (2010)

We Are Scientists  With Love and Squalor (2005)

Various Artists Cats (1982 Original Broadway Cast) (1982)

Chapterhouse  Whirlpool (1991)

Visual Inspiration: theses are some inspiration I could use for my album that I found interesting

sketches: few drawings of the plan

reason: I chose to do this image as album cover because the cat will be a symbol of mystery. Cats are very mysterious creatures, you never really know what they are thinking at any point.

how it started shots:

started to fade the ball and coloured it white

Used the brush tool to get the shadows behind the cat and the ball to become the moon

Different colour used:

I tried to shadow the cat full black at one point but it really didn't work well.

This is one looks like the cat is disintegrating

The final shots for the album and I added a title

Artist statement:
This album was done for my image manipulation assignment I decided to go with an image of a cat and I found it very interesting and fun to try play around on adobe Photoshop. At first it was really hard to think of an idea for this assignment. Then I started looking at cat memes and old rock music albums from back in the day. That gave me the idea of making this image (of the cat) for the album. I had to challenge myself to crate something on photoshop as soon as possible, that would also allow me to include the image of the cat in an interesting way. I think the image of the cat is very funny and playful, it is not a vert serious image but it is something you can look at and laugh at.

Critical Evaluation:
While doing this assignment, I think using photoshop was my biggest weakness maybe its because I was a bit behind on using the right tools and I feel it would have been easier if I was in college with the lecturer and learning how to use it face to face. sometime I forget how to use some tools, so it is a continuous learning experience. At the end of the day I managed to get the piece together. I think it was the inner glow and shadow effect that really got this project going and I used a bit of drop shadow to get that space.
